Links - Geocaching and Other
You can't have a webpage without a links page, right? Well, it must be one of those unwritten rules anyway.
Here's a list of a few links I've found helpful, a few I've found fun, and a few I've foundED. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Hopefully this list will continue to grow and change.
Geocaching Stuff
www.geocaching.com
Yeah. This one kind of goes without saying. Still, just to make it official, here it is again. Be sure to look around, type in your zipcode and see how many caches are in your area, read the FAQ and the message boards. Have fun.
Dan's Stats Page
If you're interested in seeing who's in the lead for "world cache domination" this is the place to go. It's also interesting to see how many caches you've got spread over how many different states.
Update: 08/17/03
Unfortunately Dan's Stats Page is no more. For those of you reading this who never got to see the page, it was amazing, useful and just plain fun. With a couple of mouse clicks you could see how many finds you had in different states, who the top cachers were and what your ranking was in any particular state. Dan's page is really going to be missed. Rather than remove the link I'll leave it here as a memorial....and a hope.
Buxley's Geocaching Waypoint
Have you ever wanted to see a map of all the caches in your state? How about your country? How about just all the caches? This is the site where you'll find them. The color-coding is pretty neat, too.
ClayJar Networks
ClayJar is one of the few geocachers who's had the honor of eating with me. Wait . . maybe it was my honor. Well, anyway, it was a nice way to kill an hour or so. On this website you'll find Watcher, a program for viewing the gpx files you get from geocaching.com if you're a premium member. ClayJar also set up the #geocache chatroom and has a java applet on his site that will take you to the room. Hope to see you there!
www.garmin.com
Makers of fine GPS equipment. Be sure to take a look at the new Garmin Rhinos, combination GPSr and Two-Way Family Radio.
GPS Guide for Beginners
A great guide on how to use GPS and how it just plain works. Good reading, though it is a little dated. Formatted in Adobe PDF.
Using GPS units with Paper Maps
Another guide from Garmin. The title says it all. This one is also formatted in Adobe PDF.
LostOutdoors.com
Enter a longitude and latitude, hit the button and boom--you get a map of the location. Pretty handy, fun to play with.
www.learn-orienteering.org
This is a great place to learn how to use a compass.
CheaperThanDirt.com
In my opinion the best source for ammo cans and other military surplus. Great prices and great shipping. My only complaint is that they seem to like to sell your address once you order from them.
Palm Stuff
www.palmgear.com
For all of you Palm users, this is the premiere site for finding Palm software. There's a good collection of GPS related software here and even some Geocaching related software like GPSHunter, GeoNiche and the HintDecoder
GPX Spinner
If you're a Charter Member of Geocaching.com you can receive files for your GPS, computer and Palm through something called Pocket Queries. After receiving these files in GPX format you can use this site to "spin" them so they can be viewed on your Palm through either AvantGo or Plucker. As far as I'm concerned it works much better with Plucker (though AvantGo is great for a lot of other things).
www.georgecomm.com
George manufactures and sells cables to connect your GPS and PDA. You can buy them from his site itself or fight for them on eBay.
Other Stuff
www.weatherbug.com
Ok, this isn't exactly Geocaching related - but you have to go outside to Geocache, and I always check WeatherBug for current weather info and forcasts. Besides, it's free. Give it a shot.
Fun Stuff
www.miniclips.com
When you need a break from work for a few minutes, or if you want to kill a whole day, check out the games at Miniclips. Loads of fun stuff here!
www.homestarrunner.com
Remember when funny stuff on the Internet was funny and not just gross or disturbing? Well . . me neither, but these guys seem to! Lots of funny cartoons and some neat games. I highly recommend the Strong Bad Emails. This is one site that my daughter Megan and I share a love for.
My Stuff
www.harvestprayer.com
I work with Harvest Prayer Ministries as a teacher, writer, coffee maker and web designer. I've been doing this site since 1997. It's almost done. Actually it's always expanding, always evolving, very alive. We get about 250 visits a day and people really seem to like what they find.
www.nationalprayer.org
America's National Prayer Committee is a coalition of prayer ministries that come together to seek collective servant leadership for the prayer movement in America. They're also a lot of fun to work with.
www.kempchurch.org
I used to serve as the associate minister at the Kemp Church and designed their webpage. As with my other sites, this one is always a work in progress. I think we've done a good job of tailoring it to reflect who we are as a church and what we're seeking to do in our community.
www.urgentappeal.net
The Urgent Appeal is a call for Christians in America to seek God for revival. It's been an honor to work on this page and watch the call catch on.
